DCS:Black Shark
In 2003, Eagle Dynamics released Lock-On Modern Air Combat Simulator, or better known as "Lomac". The sim was highly praised by the flight sim community because of the details and the flight dynamics. A few years ago the Lomac team started working on an add-on to Lomac called Black Shark. Black Shark is the KA-50 Russian Attack Helicopter. Just last month, it was announced that Black Shark would be released by the DCS series, or Digital Combat Simulator series. In their FAQ, it also mentions that they are working on an A-10 Warthog add-on as well as (yay!!!) an AH-64A Apache add-on. I decided to check them out. I signed up over at their site and browsed through the forums. Then, I checked out some of the videos on the progress of this simulation. I was -completely- blown away by the video "Producers Note 1-Start Up', which is a good 10 minute video showing a cold start on the helicopter. I could not believe what I was looking at. Full 6 degrees of freedom using a TrackIR and the unreal amount of detail in the 'pit. It is a jaw-dropper to sit and watch the video. I don't think there is a sim out there that will even come close to matching the level of detail and interactivity as this sim has. Trust me, if you like flight simulators, it is well worth your time to take a look at this! You can check out their site at http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/. You will have to register there first. After registration, just sign in, click on Files then Video. Click on the "Producers Note 1-Start Up' video. .......you better be sitting down when you watch this....it will make your knees weak! Tony Sharp |
